INTERVIEW: Art and activism - Speaking with a local artist

I spoke with Tiana Ivana, a local activist and artist advocating against gendered violence in Australia.

On Saturday the 31st of May, Tiana will be overseeing a performance arts piece, She Still Matters. She will be accompanied by volunteers in lying in the Botanical Gardens in silence for an hour to peacefully protest gendered violence in Australia. This is to represent the 132 lives lost to gendered violence since the start of 2024.

We chat about the creative vision for her upcoming performance art piece, why gendered violence is such a major issue in Australia, and the importance of mixing art with activism.
